The release of iOS 16 has seen the introduction of a new battery management function called Adaptive Power, which automatically analyzes users’ habits and accordingly modifies system performance to stretch the battery’s life, thus making the phone last longer in an operational state without the need for any manual interference.
Adaptive Power works in the background and keeps on learning the usage patterns continuously. It is able to alter the settings like lowering the brightness of the screen, restricting background activity, and getting the battery into Low Power Mode when it is down to 20 percent. As per Apple, the changes stop when making high-performance tasks, like gaming or shooting with the camera, happen.
The function is now live on the devices: iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 16 series, 16e, and iPhone 15 Pro models. The iPhone 17 and iPhone Air come with Adaptive Power turned on by default. The other models that are compatible have to go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode > Adaptive Power to switch it on. Users can also choose to be notified or not about the feature’s activity.
According to Apple, Adaptive Power is in the background, doing its thing, so to speak, and actually running the battery down without being perceived as having a performance drop. As an example, the system will keep performing well during video recording, photo editing, and multitasking, while at the same time doing battery management. Users may not always be informed about it when the system switches, but still, most operations would run without interruptions.
In order to use Adaptive Power, a device should be running iOS 26. From there, users can go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if the feature is available. The update should be done over Wi-Fi and the installation should be done while the device is plugged in. After that, the feature will be automatically turned on for all the devices that support it.
The specialists point out that Adaptive Power does not prolong the daily battery life significantly but it can, however, gradually, improve the battery's overall health. Apart from the possibility of the feature still allowing overnight charging, it could, however, provide operating hours between charges. Users during the data indexing process may notice a temporary reduction in battery power right after the iOS 26 installation.
Apple simultaneously advocates for the security of its devices to be always at their best. Moreover, reliable antivirus programs can help users with phishing, malware links, and even dangerous apps, along with the built-in iOS security, which is still weaker. The regular scanning and updating of devices ensure that they continue to be protected from the increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
